Occitanie 1900/1968 - Ideas and men - Laurent Abrate
Emergence and history of the Occitan claim.
There is no Occitan twentieth century, the last Occitan century dates back to the thirteenth century.
Since then, Occitania, or, more exactly, this latent nation, which can reasonably be supposed if events had so decided, no longer exists but to become possible. France, however, exists even if it has been built by erasing, encompassing other countries around to melt into a single mold. The latter, however, has had some cracks, since in the hexagonal space in which it has operated, there remain characters irreducibly Basque, Corsican, Alsatian, Breton, Occitan, and so on.
The most significant feature being the survival of so-called regional languages. Thus, for Occitania, the key to a possible future remains within reach of the elements possessing the consciousness of these specific characteristics, the possibility of analyzing their origin, their evolution and that of operating their conjunction. These conscious elements constitute the Occitanist circles, and thus the engines of this possible becoming of Occitania.
A historical look without concessions, on the men and great ideological movements that made Occitania in the twentieth century (from 1900 to 1968).
