History of the flag:
The Camargue cross, or cross of Camargue or cross of the gardians, is a symbol of the Camargue created from scratch in 1926 by the painter Hermann-Paul at the request of the Marquis Folco de Baroncelli to represent the "Camargue nation" of gardians and fishermen. It embodies the three theological virtues of Christianity: faith (with its tridents of gardians in Christian cross), hope (with its anchor of sinners), and charity (with its heart of the Holy Maries).
