Dans l'univers littéraire de Marcel Pagnol - Biographie d'une œuvre populaire - Christophe Chabbert
(In the literary universe of Marcel Pagnol. Biography of a popular work)
Dans l'univers littéraire de Marcel Pagnol is not just another biography of a popular author everyone thinks they know well. Rather, it is the "biography of his work". This book offers an unprecedented insight into the world of Marcel Pagnol. Why do people in general love Pagnol and why, on the contrary, do intellectuals despise his work? This is the very first question posed by this essay. Is he really an author at odds with his era, a "special case" as the few academics interested in his work often like to define him? Who were his inspirers and masters? How can we explain his aesthetic choices? Who are his characters? How are his works constructed? Is he an author of comical works for schoolchildren only? This study calls into question many aspects that seemed to be the consensus, and sheds new light on a body of work that we thought we knew so well. It offers a total immersion in Pagnol's work, in an attempt to grasp its complexity and originality.
