Géopolitique des langues (romanes et autres) - Gentil Puig-Moreno
Geopolitics of languages (Romance and others)
According to the linguist De Saussure, since we all speak, we have an idea of our language, but not necessarily in accordance with that of the linguist. Thus, to present simply the state and the role of our own language - and of languages in general - is the objective of this popularization work. It was necessary to go beyond strict linguistics to the social use of language and, for that, to be interested in the variations that this same use implies. However, current events impose the question of the political role of language, which implies an analysis of the linguistic situations in France and Spain (each occupying a third of the book), but also those of other countries and other languages whose current events inform of the tragedy of peoples who are victims of wars.
This is why the choice of a geopolitics of languages imposed itself on us, as a reality. We refer to two specific and dramatic cases, that of Kurdistan, a nation without a state, but also that of Ukraine and the drama it is going through. These two extreme cases allow us to better understand what is happening to languages close to us. As for those of our own countries, they are not supported by the State. We call for a more democratic state, respectful of its own diversity.
A fascinating book on the social and political use of the language issue.
Preface by Paul Molac (deputy of Morbihan).
