Venés Venés - Badia Corale Val Chisone (version MP3)

Forty-five years ago, an alpine choir of young people still a little crazy, decided to found a "badia": not a convent of regular monks, but one of these medieval associations, called "badie dei giovani" or " abbazie dei folli ", who fought for the defense of the country and the party government. The members work together to search, record, transcribe, store, learn to sing and chorus the old songs of their lands, even those almost forgotten by all. "Madness" consisted of the abandoned repertoire and stylistic elements of the mountain choir, the heresy of admitting to singing the mothers and sisters of these Alps; in the carelessness of organizing concerts also Saturdays of the festival Sanremoe in the presumption to think that the recovery of things discarded but that could have a moral utility in the future.

The life and work of the "Badia Corale Valley Chisone" were (and are) a rich human and cultural experience for those who came and went. The company's archives now contain more than 450 song texts, mostly accompanied by musical notation or magnetic recording (now spread in digital) of testimonies collected by the voices of singers born in the nineteenth century; includes photographic productions of dozens of old manuscript notebooks; he has nearly two hundred musical compositions in sheet music, which form the repertoire of the choir of the Badia. The story of the nine-piece choir concerts touches on the sixteenth century.

This CD provides an overview of the forty-five year repertoire. In the anthology are songs from Piedmont (popular and a "brofferiana"), in French (including the Vaud valleys), in Occitan alpine or alpine eastern Occitan Alps (with a tribute to Mistral and fraternal hospitality with a similar Catalan song): sometimes rare songs ... "as the flowers fled to devastation and survived on the edge of the desert." Languages, themes and stories that have marked the identity and popular culture of a land border, backed up to the mountain, where water and destiny flowing downstream, while the sun and dreams fade on the Mount Viso.

Note that the CD version (with booklet including all texts and translations) is also available here.

Extract:
