The obvious fact is often a carrier of anxiety; indeed, what to say about a thing which shouts so hardly as it is, which it prevents almost from trying to speak about it. Then, say the Hautes-Alpes they are a Nature would be a statement of the obvious? Maybe! Unless we find, in the polysemy of the word, subject to express well something else. Because if we think at once, and necessarily, to its environment, the highest department of France offers especially a strong identity.
It is a "Nature" a temperament, an earth of contrasts, often Manichean, where the horizon has only little room, where the mist, sometimes, eats outlines and blurs colors. A sun which burns fields, a cold which breaks the stone, torrents which become rivers. An ground of rocks, water, grandiloquent summits and the others more discreet.
An ground on which a fauna roams, where becomes emancipated a flora, which calls the listening and the look, which invites the delight.
A Nature which undestand it. Say that a thing is beautiful, that " it is beautiful! ", the proof of this luck is already which has the speaker of the sentence to be held in front of a scene which allows the expression. And no need to understand the reasons of this beauty. The felt is enough. Nevertheless, behind the aestheticism and the power of a site, also gets free the idea of another component: the character. A character which would be the result of a set of criterion geographical, historic, geological, a sort of DNA of a place, clean, incomparable, which would not aim to be either above or below an other one, but an unique. A large number of small details, element, principles which joined to form big sites, inescapable landscapes.
Does this mean that there would be a nature which sees itself and an other one more internal? Maybe; certainly; and doubtless it is the quest of this book: find all which makes that this universe is this one and not an other one. All the details which, at some point, gathered in an almost reflected decoration, under the leadership of time, accept the collective to play a brilliant scene. This series of images goes off to explore ingredients and not dish, constituent, these ends of vegetable, mineral and liquid pieces capable of engendering marvels. And if the panorama gave up many place retail, the big plate glass window in the oculus, it is to give priority to the microcosm as explanatory of the macrocosm.
The inventory is not reason, make place for the essence.
