The author:
Jean-Claude Forêt is a French academic and writer born in 1950 in Lyon. He discovered Occitan in Ardèche in his early years. Decisive discovery. Since then he has been speaking, reading and writing it in two of his varieties, Vivaroise and Languedoc. A long time French teacher, he also taught Occitan language and literature at the Paul Valéry University in Montpellier. He has published several novels in Occitan and participated in the foundation of Jorn Editions.

Quand citi los remembres d'un còp èra
a las sesilhas d'un doç pensièr mut,
planhi l'abséncia d'una anciana espèra,
vièlh dòl, nòus plors sus mon car temps perdut.
Nègui mos uèlhs pauc faits per las rajadas
suls amics mòrts dins la nuèit sens limit,
torni plorar penas d'amor passadas
e regretar mant imatge esvanit.
Me dòli alara a d'anticas dolenças
e fau de pena en pena en gemegar
lo compte trist de sofèrtas sofrenças
que las paguèri e devi mai pagar.
Mas amic car, se ton pensièr me ganha,
tota pèrda es garida, adieu ma lanha.
