Nadalons, Chants de Noël en langue d'oc & d'oïl - Olivier Payrat
(Christmas songs in oc & oïl language)
Olivier Payrat, composer and instrumentalist, invited to sing Limousin Christmas, has enriched his repertoire of Nadalons to offer us this collection. These popular songs in Occitan and French were collected in Corrèze, Dordogne and the north of the Lot (between the middle of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century). They come from the collections of Abbot Victor Pourville (Lou Cabrettairi de Nadalou et de Nostra Dama), of Joseph Canteloube (Anthology of French popular songs, Tome I and Tome III), of J.B. Chèze-L. Branchet-J. Plantadis (Chants et chansons populaires du Limousin), and Abbés Casse & Chaminade (Les Vieilles Chansons Patoises Du Périgord).
They are here chosen and arranged to be interpreted by all. In its graceful simplicity, its musical phrases and its lyrics, the pastoral cantilena reflects the spontaneous soul of the 18th century peasant society where it originated.
A sound recording on CD accompanies and extends the reading of this booklet, from Christmas to Christmas.
Illustrated by Jean-François Amelot.
