La part de l'orage - Barrut (CD)

Barrut is a sonorous beast composed of three women and four men who are one and the same, giving life together to a wild and poetic animal, which sometimes cries, often roars. In a powerful symphony, the beast makes its intimate and political struggles resonate through pamphlets, fables, epics, and other poetic chronicles of today's world.

"Barrut is a beast made up of three women and four men who play polyphony and beat very loudly on drums. A beast of sound, wild, that sometimes cries, often roars, a beast that grew up in the Montpellier scrubland and whose insatiable appetite led it to drink at the table of many strangers, who are no longer strangers as soon as they agree to feed the prodigious stomach. The beast of Barrut is a poetic animal. It sets in motion stanzas in its mother tongue, Occitan. Poems written by Léon Cordes, Louisa Paulin, 20th century troubadours, or by the beast itself."

La Part de l'Orage is a story told on stage, a captivating tale. The beast of BARRUT takes the audience into an epic where various emotions are intertwined. Childhood memories, the joys and torments of life, our darker sides. Barrut proposes to bring to light the resolutely human poetry of his beast and his committed look at the world. The voices accompany with precision this initiatory journey, with powerful and organic percussions, an energy sometimes close to the trance.

This album is the image of the music of the beast today: the more the beast grows, the less it is wise. It is possessed this beast... fangs, lips, shaggy hair, and a song always more complete. Sometimes, she hurts herself. Then she shouts her anger, certainly, but also seeks to heal and to heal herself. Her voice then takes on the age of mothers, and cradles the dead and the living in a vague hope that the pain will stop.

La part de l'orage was recorded in November 2019 on a snowy plateau in Aubrac, by Yoan Jauneaud and with the accompaniment of voice luthier Emmanuel Pesnot.
