After having published two books, the first on Châtillon-le-Désert, a disappeared commune of the Gapençais and the second on Saint-Auban-d'Oze, Jean-Claude Bermond is now interested in life in Veynes and its hamlets during the Ancien Régime.

You will find a lot of information on the sometimes conflicting relations between Catholics and Protestants, on the demographic, social and economic context as well as on the numerous vicissitudes met by the inhabitants during the passage of the armies, the incursion of the troops of the Duke of Savoy in 1692 with looting and burning, the plague epidemic of 1630-1631, the climatic hazards and the overwhelming weight of the impositions...

The author:

Jean-Claude Bermond, expert inspector of the General Directorate of Competition, Consumption and Fraud Control at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, retired, is administrator of the Society of Studies of the Hautes-Alpes as well as the Genealogical Association of the Hautes-Alpes. His paternal ancestry is of Hautes-Alpes origin and mainly from the Buëch geographical sector for which he has conducted genealogical and local history research.
