On September 29, 1759, a merchant ship, Virginia, was wrecked on the coast of a desert Pacific island. Only survivor of the disaster, Robinson survives alone in the midst of a wild and preserved nature, without any other human presence.
But one day, his well-regulated existence will be radically disrupted by the company of another human being landed on the island, the Indian Friday. It will then be the discovery of another life, the wild life ...
Michel Tournier adapted his own work "Vendredi ou les limbes du Pacifique" (Friday or the Limbo of the Pacific) for the youth. This gives us an easy to read novel, fun and full of a bit of a protest wisdom that you will enjoy discovering in Occitan.

L’ouvrage publié à la fin des années 1970 est bien de son temps. L’auteur fait riper le centre d’intérêt du mythe de Daniel Defoe en donnant la place centrale à Vendredi. Le Sauvage a le premier rôle, il était temps ! Sèrgi Carles l’a traduit en un languedocien simple et clair, avec un sens certain du rythme narratif. Le traducteur, auquel s’adresse régulièrement Letras d’Oc, a déjà parfait un André Brinks monumental (Una cadena de Votz) entre autres. Extrait : « En tornant a la fortalesa, Robinson vegèt l’Indian que jogava amb Tenn (un chin), tot nud. S’ambufèt de l’impudor del salvatge e de l’amistat que semblava èsser nascuda entre el e lo can ».
