Claude Peyrot - Œuvre occitane complète
Critical edition with introduction, a French translation and notes by David Fabié
Claude Peyrot (1709-1795), born in Millau, in Rouergue, can be considered one of the main authors of Occitan language of the XVIIIth century, alongside Jean-Baptiste Fabre and Jean de Cabanes. He is the author of social poems that lightly deal with small events, political poems about the revolutionary period and georgic poems. It is this last kind, with Les Quatre Saisons (the Four Seasons), ou les Géorgiques patoises (the Georgian patoises - 1781), which earned Peyrot his fame. Taking up a literary construction then in vogue in Europe, the poet follows in this work the work of the fields of the peasants rouergats over the four seasons.
For the first time Peyrot's work was the subject of a scientific edition. The latter, on the basis of the methods of material bibliography, gives the reader a scientifically established text. The introduction proposes a biography of the author, an analysis of his works as well as a presentation of the editorial history of the text. The poems are accompanied by a French translation, edited notes and explanatory notes. In addition, annexes offer the transcription of rare documents about Peyrot's works.
This book, which has a total of 727 pages including 9 pages of images and maps, is the revision of a doctoral thesis presented in January 2011 at the University of Toulouse-Le Mirail.
