The Prix Mistral de littérature Provençale was created in 1946 by Pierre Julian, majoral of the félibrige and president of the Comité du Muséon Arlaten, to illustrate the langue d'oc. Since then, it has crowned all the great names of Provençal literature.

Louis Scotto, Provençal writer and poet, has been campaigning for the langue d'oc and Provençal culture for over 30 years. This book, which breathes new life into Mireille, is a tribute to Frédéric Mistral and his universal work.

Ainsi, loin de moi l'idée de choquer quiconque, si j'ose ici présenter ce Chant Treize, ce n'est pas comme une suite de la Mireille de Frédéric Mistral mais comme un travail d'écriture qui m'a permis de proposer un autre destin pour Mireille et affirmer au vingt-et-unième siècle ma foi dans la pérennité du mythe de la Provence, le plus fort et le plus vivace qu'ait produit la littérature provençale moderne.
