Dafnís e Alcimadura (Mondovila) followed by L'operà de Frontinhan (M. Fizes)

critical edition and commentaries by Jean Larzac.

The occitan theatrical heritage: two operas in the langue d'oc, sheepfolds, from the 17th and 18th centuries.

L'Operà de Frontinhan, by Nicolas Fizes (1648-1718), was undoubtedly played in 1678 during the festivities given in honor of the Peace of Nijmegen. It is a comedy full of life on a subject borrowed from the pastoral (a mother wants to marry her daughter Francon to a wealthy old man).

Dafnís e Alcimadura, by Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville (Mondonvila - 1711-1772) obtained a triumphant success during its performance in 1754 before the King, at Fontainebleau, before spreading throughout Occitania. The music is of high quality and the room itself full of charm: "a simple plot, well-camped characters, a general freshness of writing." The author had no doubt the ambition "to enrich the culture of oc of a superior entertainment ... It is a success in the somewhat conventional, here regenerated, musical pastoral." (New History of Occitan Literature, R. Lafont and C. Anatole).

Collection A Tots n ° 67, IEO edicions.

The book presents the texts in occitan of the booklets, illustrated in black and white of facsimiles of documents, but not the partitions, which are downloadable here.

Back cover by Jordi FRECHE (Deputy, Mayor of the City of Montpellier):
