Trésor des fables d'Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes en occitan (volume 4) - Quand nos fabulistes rivalisent avec La Fontaine
Collective, scientific edition under the direction of Jean-Baptiste Martin
Generations of French people still know the fables of La Fontaine that they learned in their youth. They have also been a rich source of inspiration for our regional writers, Occitan or "patoisants", who have translated or adapted them into their own language. More or less faithful translations, very often tasty and which deserve to be known.
From the 19th century to the present day, many authors from the present-day Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region have written fables in their native language, Occitan. If some of them are simple translations of La Fontaine's fables, most of them present a great originality compared to the model and many others are real creations.
More than 400 of these translations or adaptations have been collected, thanks to the help of many people. This fourth volume of fables in Occitan is of particular interest: it contains thirty-one fables inspired by authors other than La Fontaine, such as Dorat, Florian, Richer, Tolstoy... and other fables that are entirely original creations.
Among the Occitan authors are Auguste Bancharel, Auguste Boissier, Louis Lebrat, Louis Moutier, Hervé Quesnel, Jean-Joseph Romezin, Jean-Denis Souvignet, Pierre-Bernard Teyssier, Arsène Vermenouze...
This fourth volume presents 31 versions of fables in Occitan, in all the varieties of Occitan spoken in the region:
Scientific edition by Jean-Baptiste Martin, bilingual work in 4 volumes, texts in Occitan (author's handwriting, sometimes accompanied by a transcription in classical handwriting) with their French translation.
In the introduction, presentation of the varieties of language and spelling, as well as the authors (classified by department).
Editions de la Salevienne, collection Regionales.
