L'espace occitan dans l'Histoire - Georges Labouysse
Ses visages divers, de la Protohistoire à nos jours.
(Occitan space in history - His various faces, from Protohistory to the present day).
Occitan regions have experienced in our history territorial structures that corresponded to the implantation of populations of various origins and whose traces are found in the main dialects of Occitan and in toponymy.
The nine chapters of this book retrace chronologically the evolution of Occitan space within a European framework. The author's bias is not to dwell on the details of a period, but to sweep over 3000 years of history by highlighting the constants but also the breaks, the tilts, the reversals of situation.
The author also chooses to take us on paths neglected by the official history of France: who knows the United Provinces of the South in the sixteenth century? And the commune of Marseilles ? We could multiply the examples.
This book is read like a novel, illustrated with many maps (very speaking) and photos, and shows us, century after century, an Occitan permanence, resistant to all kind of oppression!
