Leis Inaudibles – Les Inaudibles - Daidier Mir
(The Inaudibles)
On June 7, 1974, the French army emptied the village of Brovès (Var) of its inhabitants.
Fifty years after the expropriation by the army of the village of Brovès located in the camp of Canjuers (a few kilometers from Peyroules), Didier Mir went to meet the inhabitants and the actors of the protest caused by this decision.
What remains today of this memory? What were the consequences in terms of cultural production in Occitan language in Provence? A look back at this historical episode with those who lived it.
Les Inaudibles is a kaleidoscopic work that multiplies the points of view and the modes of expression to tell this story. The author leaves his own experience and goes to meet the expropriated inhabitants and the artists who tried to oppose the project. D. Mir speaks in his own name in the form of essays, short stories or film reviews, but also by opening his pages to the testimonies of the actors of this drama. Here, the intimate expresses the universal, the past is combined with the present and the future.
Les Inaudibles is the third title published by visual artist Didier Mir, who tirelessly tries to link his work to the Occitan language and culture. Bilingualism is for him a tool, just like engraving or photography.
This publication follows a long work of investigation and collection, and he made a long documentary film of the same name in which he gives the floor to the actors of this project (the video portraits can be consulted on the CIRDOC website).
A bilingual French-Occitan book by Didier Mir, illustrated by his engraving and photography works.
