Livre de mémoires de Mermet Claret, seigneur de Treschenu, habitant de Valréas - Texte occitan (1458 – 1466)
edited by Jean-Claude RIXTE, with introduction, full glossary and index.
Book of memoirs from the house of noble and powerful lord Mermet Claret, lord of Treschenu. Written entirely in the dialect of the Lower Dauphiné, this register provides a wealth of valuable information on agriculture, commodity prices, land administration, etc.
By rescuing from oblivion and editing, with rigor and competence, this Livre de mémoires du seigneur Mermet Claret, in its Occitan text, Jean-Claude Rixte has rendered a great service to the scientific community: in particular to historians or ethnologists interested in the workings of pastoralism through the ages and across territories, and to linguists committed to the study of language variation in space, particularly in this northern part of the Occitan domain. But a written testimony to the past as important as this one should also satisfy all those who, whether professional or amateur researchers, or simple citizens, want to learn about the richness and diversity of their heritage.
Extract from the preface by Jean-Claude BOUVIER, Professor Emeritus of Langue et Culture d'Oc at Aix-Marseille University.
