Despertant instruments adormits - Awakening sleeping instruments - Troubadours Art Ensemble & Invités

Direction Gerard Zuchetto.

I am proud and honoured to be able to present this album, which serves as the culmination of two years of concerts, activities, conferences and tours of the European project ‘Awakening Sleeping Instruments’. This is a physical example of the music that has been recovered and that has served to bring to life the Portico of the Monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll and, at the same time, promote its candidacy for the status of UNESCO world heritage site.
To be able to hear the works of the Scriptorium of Ripoll again 1,000 years later, to be able to relive music from the middle ages, hearing it afresh today, is something that fills us with joy. In addition, during this project, the recovered melodies have been performed by leading international musicians specialising in the genre, and have crossed borders to be performed in different countries, merging with medieval sounds from around the world. The project has included the collaboration of local groups in the town of Ripoll, such as the very active participation of the Coral Capella de Santa Maria, a choir established over 125 years ago that has been awarded the prestigious Creu de Sant Jordi.
Enormous thanks go to Antoni Madueño and Gerard Zuchetto for making possible this recording, which brings to life and gives voice to the instruments carved in stone in the mid-12th century Portico in Ripoll. We would like to thank them and all the others who have participated in this journey, as we hold in our hands one more piece of the great cultural heritage of our beloved town.
Jordi Munell i Garcia, Mayor of Ripoll.
