Claudine Fréchet presents Eloi Abert's The Pagan Faust (Lou Faust paisan), a play that can be considered as the author's most important piece of art. In the essay the three versions of the legend are compared: the original legend, the Volksbuch version, the version of Goethe and that of Eloi Abert. Ms Fréchet concludes that the play of Eloi Abert is a form of resistence against the materialistic way of life which came to dominate the countryside by the beginning of the 20th century.
Cette pièce de 1156 vers est présentée en triptyque : la version originale en parler occitan, sa traduction en français et sa transcription en graphie occitane normalisée.
